Do you have a mean girl that lives in your head? I, sure do. She says the most awful things to me, on a constant loop, constantly trying to undermine everything I’m trying to be and improve. Sound familiar? Recently I had one of those memory things pop up on Facebook and it got me thinking.
Do we realize that that applies to that meanie in our heads too? Let me re-work it this way …
What if the only bible you ever read is how you treat yourself, or the only sermon you ever hear is how you speak to yourself when no one is around or even just inside your own head? What if you only compare yourself to others, always believing you’re falling short? At the end of the day, will you be closer or further away from Jesus?
The bible tells us just how precious we are to God and how special and unique we really are, over and over and over again. Yet, we continue to let the enemy write the monologue in our minds. I’m guilty of it. We have so much worth and value to God and so long as we’re stuck in the background, believing the mean girl, who LIES, we’re not going to do all the marvelous things God wants us to do. We’re missing so much of the blessing!
Let’s be challenged to shut that girl up this year. (Or at least quiet her down) Start with Psalm 139, then ask God to change your eyes. (No, not the colour or the shape!) Ask Him to give you a glimpse of what He sees when He looks at you. Also, when that mean girl starts squawking, rebuke her! She will tremble and hide from our God. You can count on it. And finally, reach out to your friends. Be willing to share your struggle and listen to theirs. There’s power in numbers and I’m willing to bet the women in your life will not only rebuke that mean girl with you, but they’ll be thrilled to have someone help them rebuke theirs.
